Description
This Short Eared Owl sat on a fence across the road from me for quite some time. I learned that owls like to perch on fences because the fence’s linear shape allows them to survey areas where prey might be abundant or easier to catch, like along roadsides, field edges, and property boundaries. Owls are successful hunters due to their silent flight, exceptional hearing, and ability to rotate their heads up to 270 degrees, all of which contribute to their hunting success from these perches.
